Welcome to my first blog post!
I never thought of myself as much of a writer, but always felt like I had something to say! So here is where I will do updates on my life and travels that can be longer than an Instagram caption. I will also share behind the scenes images and other photo's from my travels that have not been seen before!
So, a little about me first!
If you didn't already know, my name is Steph, and you can probably always find me with a camera in my hand.
I was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, where I was fortunate enough to be apart of a family that loved to travel! By the time I was 8, I had already been to the USA, Fiji, and travelled a fair bit around Australia also. I didn't know it then, but those early experiences shaped a lot of who I am today, and ignited my passion for travel.
After i finishing high school, I started my degree at the University of Wollongong where i studied a Bachelor of Digital Media (basically Film & Television). I absolutely loved TV & Movies and was convinced that I wanted to work in the industry. Two years into my degree, I got accepted into the International Exchange program where I studied in the USA and attended California State University, Long Beach (where Steven Spielberg went to university) for a semester. It was here where my passion for travelling was reignited and I knew I wanted to somehow integrate travel into my work.
After graduating from Uni, I knew that the film industry in Australia was going to be tough to crack into. Around the same time, I started photographing portraits and soon realised how much i loved it!
I worked part-time in the industry for many years (whilst also having a full-time job) and it wasn't long before I knew that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
In April 2017, I made the huge decision to quit my 9-5 job, and start shooting portraits full-time. In the same month, I also attended my first Landscape Photography workshop in New Zealand. It was here that I had the realisation that Travel and Lanscape Photography was my true passion.
This trip made me even more determined than ever to learn, improve and shoot as much as I could. Photographing landscapes made me happier than I have ever been.
In a little over a year since discovering Landscape photography, I travelled and photographed New Zealand 3 times, Iceland, Finland, The UK, Singapore, Indonesia and various locations around NSW and QLD.
How incredible is our world hey?
Nothing makes me happier than standing and witnessing all the amazing things that nature has to offer!
I have a little bit more travel planned for the rest of the year, including Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and Seattle (so if you have any tips on places to go in those areas let me know!!) Although my ultimate bucket list destinations that I am dying to go to are Antarctica, Alaska, Canada, Northern Finland (Lapland), Norway and Greenland! Apparently all the incredible places in the world I want to visit just happen to be some of the coldest (and I'm from Australia so I'm not exactly accustomed to insanely cold climates) but hey, whatever it takes right!
Ooft, okay that wasn't as hard as I thought!
If you managed to stay the whole way through, congratulations and thank you!
That's it for me for now, but in the mean time, let me know what type of blog posts you would like, or if you have any questions about my travels, photography or my equipment I use feel free to ask and I will get back to you as soon as I can!
Until next time,
Passionate Landscape, Travel and Portrait Photographer based in Sydney, Australia.
